The three-day Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Solution-Focused Therapy, equipping participants with practical skills and strategies to integrate this approach into their therapeutic practice. It includes the historical development, theoretical context and practical applications. Each session includes a combination of theoretical concepts, interactive exercises, role-plays, and discussions to facilitate learning and skill development.

Day 1:
Introduction to Solution Focused Therapy
Explanation of the history and development of SFT. Basic principles and assumptions, theoretical foundations and evidence base.
Role of the therapist. Shifting from problem-solving to solution-building, use of language and questioning tehniques.
Techniques and tools. Scaling questions and Miracle Question (explanations and practice of these techniques).
Highlighting client strengths. Identifying and amplifying client strengths and resources.
Day 2:
Practical Application of Solution Focused Therapy
Case studies. Analysis and discussion of case scenarios applying SFT.
Dealing with resistance. Addressing resistance and fostering client engagement.
Goal setting and future-oriented approach. Exploring techniques for collaboratively setting achievable and meaningful goals with clients. Emphasising future-focused language and envisioning a preferred future.
Using feedback and evaluating progress. Incorporating feedback and measuring progress towards goals.
Day 3:
Practical Application and Implementation
Applying SFT to different settings. Individual therapy techniques and applications. Family therapy and navigating multiple perspectives and goals.
Advanced questioning techniques. Exception-seeking questions, how to identify exceptions to the problem and exploring their significance. Coping questions, uncovering coping strategies and past successes. Exploring and scaling the readiness for change.
Ethical considerations. Privacy, confidentiality and respecting autonomy.
Putting it together: how you and your service can put into practice what you have learned; identifying and problem solving barriers, planning and implementation going forward.
As with all our courses, there will be interactive discussions, case studies, demonstrations and opportunities for participants to practice and receive feedback on their application of SFT techniques.

This course is suitable for mental health professionals (with or without a core training), including counsellors, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists and individuals interested in gaining insights into SFT.
Note: This course provides foundational knowledge and skills for working with individuals but does not qualify participants to practice as SFT therapists. Consultation with a qualified mental health professional is essential for any clinical practice involving treatment.
